ICAR- KVK, West Garo Hills (WGH) organized training programmes on “Importance of deworming and mineral supplementation in livestock & poultry”
under the project National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) at Marapara and Miboldarechikgre villages on 6th Nov 2024 and 8th Nov 2024 respectively. The NICRA project aims to enhance
resilience of Indian agriculture to climate change and climate variability through strategic research and technology demonstration.
Parasitic infection and mineral deficiency decrease immunity in livestock & poultry which increases stress level in them in extreme weather condition. Worm burden
can result in a loss of up to 10% in daily weight gain and 13% in feed conversion in growing animals resulting increased cost of production through increased food usage and reduced body weight gain. Similarly mineral
deficiency leads to different diseases including infertility. So, KVK, WGH conducted the training programmes to urge the farmers and farm women to follow the deworming schedule regularly along with mineral supplementation
to keep their animals and birds healthy even in extreme weather condition. Dr. Sagarika Borah, STO, Animal Science took the initiative to conduct the training programmes who has also done deworming in pigs at some farmers’ field
in the villages as a part of practical demonstration. Other KVK experts, Dr Tarun Kumar Das, CTO, Ms Priyanka Saha and Dr. Sanjay Chetry also attended the programme. More than 60 farmers and farm women in both the villages were benefitted
from the training programmes. Anthelmintics along with mineral mixtures were provided to the participants to enable them to do deworming in their animals and birds immediately after the programme.
